The Academic Integrity Board (AIB) serves as an engaged advisory body focused on trends in academic integrity. The Board is charged with evaluating the state of academic integrity at the university and recommending changes to the process or new programming to benefit the community. The AIB includes both students and faculty from each of the schools participating in the centralized process. Members of this body also serve on academic integrity hearing panels.  AIB members are expected to recuse themselves from a hearing panel in which they have a conflict of interest with one of the parties. 

For 2025-2026, the Academic Integrity Board was comprised of 47 members: 28 faculty and 19 students from six schools (the Bursky School of Public Health will be represented in 2026-2027).  Members are nominated by their colleagues and/or appointed by school leadership to serve on the Board. 

WashU Academic Integrity Board Co-Chair Position Overview 

  • Role Summary: The Faculty and Student Co-Chairs act as the chief facilitators and leaders of the board, guiding the group toward its short-term and long-term objectives while ensuring alignment with the university’s broader strategic plan. 
  • Strategic Oversight: In collaboration with the Vice Provost and Academic Integrity Coordinators, set the goals for the board and assist in making progress towards goal completion.  
  • Reports To: Vice Provost  
  • Support provided by: Academic Integrity Coordinators 
  • Term: 2 years 

AIB Members: Time and Expectations 

Training: There is one required training session for the entire board with Academic Integrity in the Office of the Provost and University General Counsel.  This training is to take place in September of each year and takes approximately 2 hours.  There may be other training offered through the university or external entities throughout the year. 

Meetings: we will conduct two meetings each semester (September, November, February, and April).  Meetings will be approximately 1.5 hours to discuss process implementation, university trends, concerns, innovations, and best practices. 

Hearing Panels: Panels will comprise 2 faculty members and 1 student member.  We will strive to have one faculty member from the school that the report originated from to serve on the hearing panel, while also finding a balance of service on hearing panels.  Hearings take place via Zoom. 

Length of Service: Faculty are expected to serve on the Board for 2 years; Students are expected to serve for 1 year.  There is the option to continue on the Board beyond the initial term.
