Nick Schimp is a PhD candidate in the Institute of Materials Science & Engineering. He graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry & Biology from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and an M.S. in Analytical Chemistry from the Illinois Institute of Technology. Nick has extensive R&D experience in the chemical industry in both synthesis and characterization of materials for electronics and energy storage applications. At WashU, his research focuses on using atomic-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy to characterize materials. Nick is interested in developing in situ methods to watch how atomic structures behave under different conditions and understanding how to use these behaviors to design next-generation materials.
