Bei Hu is a multidisciplinary designer, educator, and multimedia artist. She is an Assistant Professor of Design at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, where she teaches interaction design. She previously taught at the Kansas City Art Institute as a Visiting Assistant Professor and at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and served on the Design Lab staff for the Interactive
Telecommunications Program and Interactive Media Arts program at New York University. Her research and creative practice explore the intersection of design, technology, and storytelling, with a focus on sensory and embodied experiences through interactive media and emerging technologies. Her work spans immersive spatial environments, web-based platforms, interactive installations, and connected wearable devices. Hu’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally in museums, galleries, and exhibitions across Florida, New York City, Kansas City, Shanghai, and Beijing, including the 13th National Exhibition of Fine Arts in China. Her work has received recognition from UX Design Awards, Graphic Design USA, Communication Arts, AIGA, the Society of Typographic Arts, the Davey Awards, dotCOMM Awards, and Indigo Design Awards. Her research and creative work have also been featured in books and publications in art and design, including a cover feature in Art magazine in 2020, and presented at international conferences across the United States and Europe. She holds a BFA in Visual Communication and an MFA in Art and Design from the Central Academy of Fine Arts, as well as a master’s degree from New York University’s Interactive Telecommunications Program.
