Dear WashU undergrads,

Welcome back to campus! Starting in March, WashU will provide free access to ChatGPT Edu for all undergraduates who have completed the AI Literacy module.

The extent to which you choose to use generative AI in your academic and professional lives will vary. However, since many students are already using the public version of ChatGPT, WashU is now providing access to a secure version designed for universities and students. ChatGPT Edu is a private environment for coursework and research, allowing you to gain practical experience using generative AI responsibly.

Unlike the public version, ChatGPT Edu is HIPAA- and FERPA-compliant and your conversations and uploaded data are not used to train OpenAI’s models.

How to get started:

1. Complete the AI Literacy module: If you haven’t already, self-enroll in the AI Literacy for the WashU Scholar Canvas module to receive free access to ChatGPT Edu.

2. Check your inbox: After completion, WashU IT will send you an automated email in the coming weeks with instructions for login.

Share your perspective:

Beyond access to tools and information, we want to hear your perspective about how you are using these tools and how you see them shaping your field of study. We invite you to join the conversation and share your thoughts during +AI Perspectives Week. Events include What do we do now?
