Claire Throckmorton is a PhD student in the department of Energy, Environmental, and Chemical Engineering. She received her BS in Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University in 2024, with a second major in Earth and Planetary Sciences. As an undergraduate, she became interested in the nexus of these two disciplines, which led her to the Environmental Nano Chemistry Lab at WashU to pursue it. Her research focuses on the recovery of critical minerals from unconventional resources, especially the recovery of lithium from geothermal brines and clay sources. She is very passionate about advancing sustainable sources for critical minerals and clean energy. In her downtime, Claire enjoys volunteering, yoga, baking, reading, hiking, and spending time in nature.
