The vice provost for interdisciplinary initiatives (VPII) works to boost cross-school collaborations, leading efforts to advance interdisciplinary research and scholarship at WashU. The VPII’s work involves the creation of opportunities to incentivize interdisciplinary research; helping shepherd the hiring of faculty whose scholarship and science are at the interstices of traditional disciplines; creating pathways that encourage students and early-career scholars to engage in interdisciplinary work; and fostering a climate and culture that encourage and reward interdisciplinarity.
