Under the leadership of Provost Beverly Wendland, WashU’s vice provosts plan, lead and implement key academic initiatives across the university.
All Vice Provosts are part of University Council (UC), the senior leadership of Washington University in St. Louis, providing strategic and operational guidance to the chancellor and UC colleagues on challenges and opportunities related to the mission of the university. The vice provosts work with school deans and vice deans to administer the academic program and coordinate functions of WashU to support this mission.

Executive Vice Provost
The executive vice provost collaborates with all vice provosts and senior administrative leaders to align activities, resources, and efforts towards the guiding vision of the provost and the chancellor for academic distinction. Leveraging the strategic direction provided by the Here and Next People Pillar, she leads efforts to create a cohesive, collaborative academic leadership group capable of strengthening the educational and research capacities of WashU.
Mary ensures the continued success of the Research and Community strategic initiatives by collaborating with initiative faculty leaders, supervising and supporting core implementation leadership, and leading research excellence across stakeholder groups.
Vice Provost for Admissions and Financial Aid
As Vice Provost for Admissions & Financial Aid, Ronné Turner is responsible for planning and directing the recruitment of undergraduate students to WashU and for implementing strategies to increase the strength and diversity of the student body. She also oversees Student Financial Services, which is dedicated to making it financially possible for admitted students to enroll and for enrolled students to graduate.


Vice Provost for Educational Initiatives
The vice provost for educational initiatives (VPEI) works to enhance equity in undergraduates’ academic opportunities, experiences and outcomes; deepening student research experiences; assess educational programs; and foster innovation in educational programs and practices.
Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Diversity
The vice provost for faculty affairs and diversity (VPFAD) works to build an inclusive, dynamic faculty community by supporting the professional development, thriving, and success of all Danforth Campus faculty. The VPFAD fosters the development of policies, practices, and programs that enhance faculty excellence, equity and success. The VPFAD also collaborates with Danforth Campus schools on their faculty-focused inclusive excellence goals. The VPFAD works closely with other stakeholders at the university, including The Center for Teaching and Learning, the Center for Diversity and Inclusion, the Academy for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and the Medical School.


Vice Provost for Interdisciplinary Initiatives
The vice provost for interdisciplinary initiatives (VPII) works to boost cross-school collaborations, leading efforts to advance interdisciplinary research and scholarship at WashU. The VPII’s work involves the creation of opportunities to incentivize interdisciplinary research; helping shepherd the hiring of faculty whose scholarship and science are at the interstices of traditional disciplines; creating pathways that encourage students and early-career scholars to engage in interdisciplinary work; and fostering a climate and culture that encourage and reward interdisciplinarity.

Vice Provost for Graduate Education and International Affairs
The vice provost for graduate education and international affairs (VPGEIA) oversees WashU’s entire graduate student community of over 8,900 graduate and professional students at the university’s eight schools. The VPGEIA serves as a key member of the provost’s core leadership team, advises the provost on graduate education trends, programming, strategic planning and policy, and works closely with school deans and vice-deans to advance graduate and professional education across the university. The vice provost for graduate education and international affairs is responsible for administering several university-level fellowships and overseeing The Graduate Center.
Vice Provost and University Librarian
As Vice Provost and University Librarian, Mimi Calter oversees WashU Libraries and its staff of expert librarians, curators, and archivists. She is charged with strengthening print and digital collections, developing programming to support research, teaching, and learning, and collaborating with scholars on and off campus.
